Asisat Oshoala has issued an apology to the Nigerian public following the Super Falcons’ unexpected loss to Malawi, as reported by DAILY POST. The reigning titleholders suffered a 3-2 defeat against the Scorchers during their inaugural match of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations held this Tuesday.
Malawi secured their victory through two goals from Tembi Chawinga and one from Tabitha Chawinga. Conversely, Nigeria’s goals were scored by captain Rasheedat Ajibade and substitute Uchenna Kanu. Addressing the media after the intense match, Oshoala sought forgiveness from supporters for the opening loss.
The veteran forward described the defeat as a necessary reality check for the Nigerian squad. She emphasized that while developing nations are narrowing the competitive gap, the team must recognize the high ambitions of their rivals. Oshoala stressed the importance of rigorous preparation for their upcoming Group C match against the Copper Queens of Zambia this Saturday.
