Ashleigh Plumptre has shared her sadness after being left off the Super Falcons roster for the upcoming 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, according to a report from DAILY POST. The team selection was announced by head coach Justine Madugu this past Friday, and the 25-player list notably excluded the defender.
Currently, the 28-year-old is focused on recovering from a foot injury suffered while playing for Al-Ittihad Ladies in Saudi Arabia. She has been sidelined following a surgical procedure.
Despite the setback, Plumptre used social media to voice her backing for her teammates. She explained that she must respect her body’s need for further healing time. She expressed regret over missing the tournament but remains eager to represent Nigeria again in the future. Plumptre urged fans to rally behind the squad as they pursue another championship victory, ending her message with the rallying cry, “Naija no dey carry last.”
The former Leicester City player previously represented Nigeria at the 2022 WAFCON in Morocco and played a key role in the team’s successful 2024 title campaign.
