Arsenal has finalized a £75 million agreement to acquire Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, per reports from Sky Sports. The Brazilian midfielder is scheduled to undergo a medical examination as the final step of his transfer to the Emirates Stadium.
Although Newcastle initially declined a bid, successful negotiations concluded with a deal for the 28-year-old. Guimaraes, who arrived at Newcastle from Lyon in 2022 for £40 million, expressed his preference to join Arsenal earlier this off-season. He concludes his tenure at St James’ Park having tallied 31 goals across 195 matches.
Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie stated that Newcastle preferred to retain their captain but ultimately relented after Guimaraes communicated his desire for a move to pursue championship titles. To ensure a professional transition, the midfielder participated in Newcastle’s pre-season training in Spain throughout the discussions. This sale adds to a significant summer of departures for Newcastle, including Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali.
