Arne Slot Stresses Slim Margins in Liverpool’s European Qualification Bid
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has cautioned that the race for a Champions League spot remains extremely tight as the season nears its conclusion.
Following two consecutive victories, the Reds currently hold fifth place, sitting five points ahead of Brighton.
With the top five Premier League clubs securing automatic qualification for the Champions League, Slot remains wary of how quickly standings can fluctuate. He noted that recent improvements in their points gap could just as easily reverse if the team loses focus.
The upcoming match against Crystal Palace is viewed as a significant hurdle.
Slot pointed out that Liverpool has struggled significantly against Oliver Glasner’s squad, failing to secure a victory in their three previous encounters this season, which include the Community Shield, league play, and the League Cup.
While recent league form has been positive, Slot acknowledged the emotional toll of difficult losses against Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.
Addressing the squad’s health, Slot confirmed that backup goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is out for several weeks following an injury sustained against Everton.
First-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who has been sidelined since mid-March, is nearing a return, though his availability for the Palace match remains uncertain. If Alisson is not cleared to play, Freddie Woodman is expected to start in goal.
