Armed men abduct seminarian and parishioner from Enugu church

Gunmen abducted a seminarian and a parishioner during Sunday morning Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Enugu State, prompting a frantic search by locals.

An armed group attacked St. Joseph Catholic Church in the Inoyi area of Affa, Udi Local Government, Enugu State, on Sunday morning. During the church service, the assailants seized a seminarian and a congregant.

Social media commentator Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi reported that the attackers initially took a seminarian, a catechist, and another worshipper. While the catechist was eventually released, the other two individuals remain in custody. Local residents are currently scouring the surrounding brush, though they are proceeding with care because the kidnappers are reportedly armed with heavy weaponry.

The local community is deeply unsettled by the event. Calls have been directed at the Enugu State government to bolster security measures as instability continues to increase in the region. Video evidence of the aftermath has surfaced online, further prompting pleas for state intervention. Currently, the Enugu State Police Command has not provided an official update on the situation.
