Great Britain’s Angharad Evans secured her inaugural European Championship gold medal in the 100m breaststroke in Paris. The 23-year-old clocked a time of 1:04.87, establishing a new championship record, a lifetime best, and a fresh British record. She outperformed Ireland’s Mona McSharry and Italy’s Benedetta Pilato to take the top spot.
In other competition news, Filip Nowacki advanced as the fastest qualifier for the 200m breaststroke final. The 18-year-old finished his semi-final in 2:08.60, narrowly ahead of his teammate Greg Butler. Meanwhile, 16-year-old Amalie Smith earned silver in the 400m individual medley, finishing just behind Irish swimmer Ellen Walshe. This follows Smith’s relay success earlier in the week.
Elsewhere at the championships, 19-year-old Sara Curtis established a new world record in the women’s 50m backstroke. She completed the distance in 26.63 seconds, shaving 0.23 seconds off the previous record held by Kaylee McKeown.
