Anambra pair detained for child maltreatment

A husband and wife have been remanded in custody for allegedly abusing a 10-year-old, while police investigate a separate incident involving an imposter at an Anambra hospital.

Authorities in Anambra State have placed Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40, and his wife, Chisom Chukwuyere, 30, into a correctional facility. The couple faces allegations regarding the mistreatment of a 10-year-old boy residing in Isiowulu. SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson, confirmed the court arraignment followed a public outcry sparked by social media reports and video evidence.

Police officials expressed gratitude toward the local community for their assistance, which facilitated the child’s rescue and subsequent medical treatment. Separately, the command is looking into a potential child trafficking operation in Obosi. Officers assigned to the Awada Division saved a 37-year-old woman, identified as Anurika, from a hostile crowd at Divine Mercy Hospital on June 23, 2026.

The suspect had entered the maternity ward dressed as a nurse and was caught filming infants. Although she initially claimed to work at the facility, hospital staff quickly identified her as an imposter. Anurika is now being held in protective custody while police search for other potential associates.
