A group headed by former Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley is currently in negotiations to purchase a 25% share in West Ham. The consortium, which includes Staveley’s spouse, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, has shown significant interest in acquiring the holding currently owned by Vanessa Gold. Recent reports suggest these discussions have intensified over the last few weeks.
Staveley is reportedly working to secure international funding to facilitate the acquisition. Sources indicate that the consortium first explored investment opportunities in West Ham near the conclusion of the previous season, a period during which the team faced relegation. The group has expressed potential interest in acquiring additional shares that could eventually grant them majority control of the club, which is currently led by David Sullivan and Daniel Kretinsky.
Previously, Staveley attempted to acquire a stake in Tottenham Hotspur during the last season, following her departure from Newcastle United in July 2024. These negotiations emerge during a tumultuous period for West Ham, as joint chairman David Sullivan resigned in June following serious allegations regarding his professional conduct. A joint investigation by BBC Panorama and the Times revealed claims from seven women spanning back to the 1980s. The allegations involve accusations of sexual exploitation during the period Sullivan managed his publishing business. Sullivan, 77, has denied all claims. The Independent Football Regulator is currently requesting further information from the club regarding the matter.
