Alleged Text Messages Between Tyler Perry and Derek Dixon in Sexual Assault Claims Surface

Explosive allegations have emerged against filmmaker Tyler Perry following a $260 million sexual assault lawsuit filed by actor Derek Dixon, who claims Perry made repeated unwanted advances and used his industry power for manipulation and coercion.

Dixon, best known for his role on BET’s The Oval, lodged the suit on June 13, accusing Perry of leveraging professional opportunities including roles, contracts, vehicles, and financial support—in exchange for sexual favors. According to the lawsuit, Perry preyed on vulnerable men and used the fear of career loss to compel compliance with his “perverted desires.”

The lawsuit outlines a troubling history, beginning in 2019 when Perry allegedly recruited Dixon for a role on Ruthless after meeting him at an events firm in Atlanta. Dixon claims Perry sent sexually charged text messages, including statements like, “What’s it going to take for you to have guiltless sex?” and “I love how I feel right now, but I don’t like being horny.”

The situation allegedly escalated in January 2020 when Perry invited Dixon to his residence. After being urged to stay overnight due to intoxication, Dixon claims he woke to find Perry in bed with him, touching him inappropriately.

Though Dixon initially distanced himself, he says he returned to work with Perry out of fear for his career. He alleges the harassment persisted—ranging from invasive personal questions to another alleged assault inside Perry’s trailer during filming of The Oval. Dixon states he didn’t know how to report the behavior, claiming a lack of clear HR channels.

In June 2021, a further incident reportedly occurred after a pitch meeting, where Perry allegedly groped Dixon again. Following this, Perry’s team offered Dixon a salary bump—$6,000 more per episode and expressed interest in producing a show Dixon had created. That project, however, was never greenlit due to existing deals between Tyler Perry Studios and Paramount Global.

Eventually, Dixon says he refused to return for another season and alerted regulatory bodies about the harassment. The lawsuit claims Perry warned him not to share his reasons for leaving with others, under threat of breaching his contract.

Foreign outlets have now published screenshots of the explicit messages allegedly exchanged between the two, further fueling public interest in the unfolding legal drama.
