Senate President Godswill Akpabio has identified Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, as the national leader of the successful faction within the Peoples Democratic Party. Akpabio made this statement while visiting the Karsana district to commission road infrastructure in honor of President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.
The interaction began when Wike referred to Akpabio as an exceptional performer during his tenure as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State under the PDP banner. Akpabio addressed his fellow All Progressives Congress members, asking them to disregard Wike’s remarks about his past PDP association. He clarified that the APC did not exist when he first assumed the governorship in 2007. Akpabio noted that he transitioned to the APC because it aligned better with his progressive values, eventually leading to his departure from the PDP.
Reflecting on the current state of political divisions, Akpabio acknowledged Wike’s influence, stating he views him as the head of the winning side of the fractured opposition party.
