AGCOMS Calls for Enhanced Agricultural Mechanisation in Nigeria
Chijioke Okoli, CEO of AGCOMS International Trading Limited, stressed that embracing advanced mechanisation and global best practices is vital to transforming Nigeria’s agriculture.
Despite historically low mechanisation levels, he praised President Bola Tinubu’s strong push to increase tractor use, which promises to unlock the sector’s full potential.
Speaking at South Africa’s NAMPO Harvest Day—Africa’s largest agricultural trade show—Okoli emphasized AGCOMS’s role as Nigeria’s John Deere dealer, providing tractors, implements, and tailored support to both smallholder and commercial farmers.
With Nigeria deploying over 30,000 tractors in five years, setting up mechanisation hubs, and training operators and mechanics, the current government’s multi-pronged strategy aims to revolutionize farming and attract global investment.
Okoli said, “It’s vital for the world to know that, despite Nigeria’s historic current low mechanisation level, the prospects of the country are bright because of the strong focus of the Tinubu administration on increasing tractor usage in the country. So we have every reason to be optimistic.”
According to him, “The trip was also an opportunity for us to see and learn from cutting-edge developments. This trip represents more than just attendance—it is a bold statement of our vision.
“We are committed to building the most knowledgeable and forward-thinking team in Africa. Exposure to advanced mechanisation technology and global best practices is key to transforming our agricultural landscape.”
The 2025 NAMPO Harvest Day, the Southern Hemisphere’s largest agri-event, drew a record 87,191 visitors over four days. AGCOMS, Nigeria’s official John Deere dealer, was represented by a team of 10 led by CEO Chijioke Okoli.
Niger State, a pioneer in sub-national mechanisation, also attended with a delegation headed by Niger Foods CEO Sammy Adigun.
A major highlight was the launch of the John Deere 9RX 830 hp Tractor—the continent’s most powerful tractor—offering immense horsepower, advanced technology, and operator comfort for elite large-scale farming.
AGCOMS used the event to deepen ties with global OEM partners, explore new equipment, and reaffirm its dedication to empowering farmers and youth through training and cutting-edge mechanisation solutions aligned with Nigeria’s food security goals.
Organised by Grain SA, NAMPO 2025 featured over 750 global exhibitors showcasing the latest in agricultural tech, innovation, and partnerships.
