Prince Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party presidential candidate for 2027, recently argued that Northern Nigeria’s challenges are rooted more in bad governance and corruption than in security issues or demographic growth. During his address at the Arewa Awareness Summit in Kaduna, he emphasized that the North remains a significant economic asset that is currently underutilized.
Adebayo asserted that the region has the necessary land and human resources to fuel national prosperity if its leaders focus on effective administration. He challenged voters to shift their priorities toward competence and integrity during elections to move away from systemic issues caused by poor political leadership. Rather than viewing the growing population as a liability, he believes that training and empowering Northern youth could transform them into a driving force for the national economy.
Highlighting corruption as the primary barrier to progress, he noted that no economic plan can be successful if public funds continue to be misappropriated. Furthermore, he advocated for a blend of Western and Islamic education to bridge the gap for out-of-school children, while stressing that agricultural investment is essential for job creation and poverty reduction. Ultimately, he urged citizens to embrace their role in choosing visionary leaders to secure a better future for the region and the country.
