The African Democratic Congress has questioned the impartiality of both the Nigeria Police Force and the Independent National Electoral Commission regarding the upcoming 2027 general elections. The party argues that these institutions are failing to maintain a clear distance from the ruling All Progressives Congress.
National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi highlighted concerns over reports that a faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, headed by Musiliu Akinsanya, has been selected by the electoral commission for logistics support. The party contends that hiring a group with known political leanings for sensitive election duties threatens the integrity of the voting process.
Furthermore, the ADC criticized the Lagos State Commissioner of Police for attending the debut of the City Boy Movement, a group supportive of President Bola Tinubu. The party has requested the Inspector-General of Police to clarify if this attendance was sanctioned and whether it aligns with the standards of police neutrality. The ADC intends to formally petition the INEC Chairman for an explanation and has invited top police leadership to its own events to test the consistency of the current administration’s stance on institutional political involvement.
