Social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, commonly referred to as VeryDarkMan or VDM, has issued a demand for the cancellation of South African artist Tyla’s scheduled performance in Lagos. In a video shared on his Facebook page this Thursday, VDM expressed strong disapproval, citing ongoing xenophobic violence against Nigerians in South Africa.
The activist argued that it is unacceptable for a South African entertainer to generate revenue from a Nigerian audience given the hostile treatment of his countrymen abroad. He specifically referenced the legal struggles of Chidinma Adetshina, who is currently facing deportation proceedings in South Africa. VDM warned event promoters that if they persist with the December 22, 2026, show, he and his followers would intervene to shut it down.
This stance aligns with growing calls from various Nigerians on social media to boycott the event in retaliation for the mistreatment of Nigerian citizens in South Africa.
