The Accord Party has signaled to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the upcoming August 15 Osun State governorship election serves as a vital measure of its operational capacity for the 2027 general elections. The party demands a transparent and error-free voting process, noting that citizens will assess the commission’s competence based on its performance in this state contest.
National Chairman Maxwell Mgbudem emphasized that there is no room for technical failures or partiality. He urged the commission to rigorously audit its equipment to ensure everything functions perfectly. According to Mgbudem, this election provides a significant opportunity for INEC to rebuild public trust and demonstrate institutional integrity.
Regarding the state’s leadership, the Accord Party has endorsed Governor Adeleke for a second term, citing his accomplishments in infrastructure, education, and health. The party contends that the governor has successfully pushed forward despite challenges, including the withholding of federal allocations to local governments by political opponents.
Furthermore, the party called on security forces to maintain strict neutrality and encouraged the electorate to resist vote-buying. Mgbudem stressed that safeguarding the integrity of the ballot box is essential for the health of Nigeria’s democracy. The party expressed optimism that the Osun poll will reinforce the nation’s democratic foundation.
