During its national convention in Bauchi, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) re-elected Yusuf Mamman Dantalle for a second term as National Chairman. Delegates also confirmed 26 other national officials and ratified changes to the party’s constitution.
The event, held at the Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu Square, saw the induction of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed as the party’s National Leader. Engr. Oluseyi Makinde, the Oyo State Governor and APM presidential candidate, utilized the platform to call for unity among opposition groups as the 2027 general election approaches.
Makinde emphasized that true democracy relies on a robust opposition. He urged party leadership to collaborate with others to provide a viable alternative for the public, focusing on measurable quality-of-life improvements rather than mere political rhetoric. He stressed the importance of addressing poverty, job creation, and decentralized governance to better serve the populace.
Accepting his second term, Dantalle committed to bolstering the party’s structure, increasing its membership, and prioritizing grassroots engagement. He stated that the APM’s manifesto acts as a formal agreement with the Nigerian people to prioritize national interests.
The newly elected National Working Committee features several key appointees, including Chika Illechukwu as Deputy National Chairman and Ovadeyi Ayodele Adebayo as National Secretary. The list continues with officials such as Hafsat M.B. Usman, who was named National Women Leader, and Yahaya Amina Mama, who will serve as the National Youth Leader, alongside various vice chairmen and ex-officio representatives from across the country.
