Oluwatosin Ajayi, Director-General of the Department of State Services, has urged for heightened cooperation between security services, public institutions, and local populations to address terrorism and banditry across the North-West region. Speaking at the second North-West Zonal Conference of State Directors of Security in Katsina, the agency emphasized that the fight against these threats is a mission that must succeed.
Represented by Kano State Director of Security Husseini Abubakar, Ajayi noted that the event serves as a platform to evaluate shifting security trends and refine operational tactics. He highlighted that the DSS is actively upgrading the tactical skills of its officers to ensure a more efficient response to security issues. He also praised the ongoing coordination between regional law enforcement bodies.
Katsina State Director of Security Alhassan Iliyasu remarked that the conference theme, “Unite Against Terror,” highlights that safety is a shared responsibility rather than the burden of agencies alone. He pointed to Katsina’s use of community-based security models, which incorporate vigilante groups and neighborhood watches alongside government efforts, as a successful example of this collaborative approach. The conference aims to finalize new strategies for combating regional criminal activities.
