Amnesty International has pledged to publicly condemn Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents the Osun East Senatorial District, following his inflammatory remarks directed at Accord Party members. Isa Sanusi, the Nigeria Country Director for the organization, announced this stance during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.
A video recently surfaced showing the lawmaker instructing his supporters to kill any individuals affiliated with the Accord Party prior to the upcoming governorship election. In response, Amnesty International declared its intention to highlight Fadahunsi’s behavior across the 150 nations where it maintains a presence, citing his incitement of electoral violence as a direct violation of both domestic and international law.
Sanusi emphasized that while political rhetoric in Nigeria is often volatile, this specific instance of calling for violence is egregious. He stated that the organization plans to make Fadahunsi a prime example of their stance against impunity among Nigerian political figures. The organization is calling for public accountability to ensure such dangerous behavior is no longer tolerated.
