A tragic incident in the Kassa community, located within the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, has resulted in the deaths of seven miners. The disaster took place on Wednesday evening when a mining pit suddenly gave way while operations were underway.
Local resident Albert Danlami stated that the collapse occurred around 7 p.m., trapping the workers beneath the earth. The event triggered widespread alarm throughout the area as community members and fellow miners rushed to the site in a desperate attempt to perform a rescue. Despite these efforts, those trapped were eventually found dead. In addition to the fatalities, several other individuals sustained injuries during the cave-in.
Rwang Tengwong, the publicity secretary for the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, confirmed that rescue teams were unable to save the victims. The community remains in shock following the loss of life at the excavation site.
