The Ogun State House of Assembly has commanded the leaders of the state’s 20 Local Government Councils to maintain precise documentation of all financial transactions and physical assets. This mandate aims to bolster transparency and fiscal responsibility across local administrations.
During a session held at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the House Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption issued this instruction. The directive emerged while the committee, led by Damilare Bello, reviewed the 2024 Auditor-General reports for local governments.
Alongside other committee members, including Babatunde Tella and Folawewo Salami, Bello reviewed findings for five councils, specifically Ewekoro, Ijebu North, Ijebu East, and Ifo. The committee highlighted that immediate and accurate record-keeping is vital for strong asset management and oversight.
Councils were further instructed to compile full inventories of landed properties and reclaim any unauthorized government vehicle plates. Committee members voiced concern that inadequate filing systems prevent proper administrative review. As a result, the councils must return with updated and fully explained documentation at a future meeting.
