Shehu Sani: President Tinubu Prioritizes National Longevity Over Political Popularity

Former senator Shehu Sani asserts that President Tinubu is risking his political popularity to enact necessary long-term reforms for Nigeria’s future.

Former Kaduna Central senator Shehu Sani stated on Wednesday that President Bola Tinubu is choosing the nation’s long-term health over his own political standing. During an appearance on the TVC program This Morning, Sani discussed the current state of the nation as the 2027 election cycle approaches.

Sani noted that previous presidents often avoided making difficult choices to maintain public favor. He argued that Tinubu, by contrast, is willing to confront challenges directly through policies that might jeopardize his own political support. According to Sani, the President is implementing demanding reforms that have triggered public criticism, yet these actions are necessary for progress.

Drawing parallels to the development paths of nations like Singapore, Malaysia, and Brazil, Sani emphasized that countries reaching advanced stages of development must eventually undertake unpopular and challenging measures. He maintained that while these reforms cause immediate hardship, they offer essential benefits for the future of Nigeria.
