The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has officially distanced itself from counterfeit employment letters currently circulating. The agency cautioned citizens to remain vigilant to avoid being defrauded by these deceptive recruitment ploys.
Eniola Akinkuotu, spokesperson for the commission, confirmed on Tuesday that specific documents were crafted using artificial intelligence. These letters improperly used names of people not associated with the regulatory body. Criminals are utilizing these forgeries to trick people into paying for non-existent job opportunities.
The regulator stated that it has notified law enforcement authorities and is currently monitoring the investigation. The NUPRC explicitly clarified that it is not actively hiring at this time. All official recruitment processes will follow standard legal protocols and government guidelines when they eventually occur. The public is urged to ignore any such employment offers claiming to originate from the commission.
