The Idoma Association USA (IAUSA) has decided to formally contact U.S. President Donald Trump to address the ongoing violence, displacement, and security crises occurring in the Benue South Senatorial District and neighboring regions of Benue State. This decision was finalized during the group’s 30th Annual Convention in Virginia Beach, which focused on the theme of unity through accountability.
Gathering traditional leaders, government officials, and diaspora members, the association voiced deep alarm regarding the safety of citizens back home. They urged Nigerian federal and state authorities to implement immediate and lasting security measures to halt the loss of life. To gain international support, the group plans to submit a formal petition to the U.S. President and aims to arrange for the Och’Idoma V, His Royal Majesty Agaba’Idu John Elaigwu Odogbo Obagaji, to brief the U.S. Congress on the humanitarian situation.
Beyond diplomatic advocacy, the association committed to launching a medical mission in Nigeria by December 2026, offering free healthcare and education to underserved residents. The IAUSA also emphasized the importance of integrity in governance, encouraging voters to prioritize candidate competence and character over political or ethnic ties in upcoming elections. The organization expressed strong support for the leadership of President Prince Dr. Edwin Ochai and announced that Canada will host their next annual meeting.
