Kenneth Okonkwo, who serves as the spokesperson for the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has rejected remarks made by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike suggesting that former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi is no longer politically significant. Okonkwo countered Wike’s assertions of repeated victories by pointing out that Amaechi was not even a candidate during the 2015 Rivers gubernatorial race.
During an appearance on Symfoni TV, Okonkwo criticized Wike for focusing exclusively on Rivers State politics, labeling him a local champion. He specifically questioned the validity of Wike’s claims, noting that Amaechi did not seek elective office in the state during the 2015 or 2019 election cycles.
Okonkwo dismissed the minister’s narrative as factually incorrect. He maintained that Amaechi’s political history remains strong and expressed confidence that, as a vice-presidential candidate, he will secure a win for Atiku Abubakar and the ADC in the 2027 election.
