Wike Criticizes Bode George, Labeling Him a Political Liability

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has publicly criticized Chief Bode George, claiming the former PDP deputy chair is an ineffective politician who has failed to deliver electoral victories for the party in Lagos.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has expressed no remorse for blocking former PDP Deputy National Chairman Chief Bode George from securing the party’s top leadership position. Wike dismissed George as an ineffective politician, highlighting his inability to secure any electoral wins for the PDP in Lagos State since 1999.

According to a statement from Wike’s aide, Lere Olayinka, George’s ongoing grievances stem from his failed leadership bid, which Wike blocked in favor of a candidate from the South-South region. Wike noted that George acted as if the position were his birthright and has remained resentful ever since.

Recalling a past visit to George’s Abuja home, Wike claimed he sought to mend fences but faced a cold reception until former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko intervened. Wike asserted that party leadership is defined by the capacity to win elections rather than titles, labeling George a total failure in this regard.

The minister highlighted specific data to support his claims, pointing out that George consistently lost his own polling unit in Lagos Island during the 2019 and 2023 elections. Wike concluded that while he has tolerated George’s outbursts in the past, he will no longer remain silent as the elder statesman continues to critique him publicly.
