Professor Christopher Imumolen, the National Chairman and presidential candidate for a faction of the Accord Party, has formally withdrawn from the 2027 presidential race to endorse President Bola Tinubu for a second term. During a press conference in Lagos, Imumolen emphasized that his decision was rooted in the belief that the current administration’s reform agenda is essential for national stability and progress.
Imumolen argued that replacing the President in 2027 would disrupt momentum and force the country to restart necessary developmental initiatives. He highlighted ten specific reasons for the endorsement, citing Tinubu’s courage in implementing complex economic reforms, his focus on youth empowerment, and his commitment to appointing competent individuals to strategic government roles. He noted that the administration’s policies align with his own vision for industrialization, education, and economic growth.
Despite previously criticizing the President, Imumolen stated that his perspective shifted after observing the administration’s performance and leadership. He asserted that no other opposition candidate holds a stronger chance of winning, emphasizing that prioritizing the nation over personal ambition is his primary motivation. He clarified that the Accord Party will still participate in governorship and legislative elections, maintaining that the presidential endorsement is a strategic move to ensure continuity and long-term prosperity for Nigeria.
