Mr. Olanrewaju Oyegbola-Sodipo, Chairman of the Abeokuta North Local Government Area in Ogun State, has officially launched several developmental initiatives and ratified a bye-law that prohibits open grazing. This move aims to improve local governance and support community growth.
These projects cover all 16 wards and four major communities, focusing on essential sectors such as healthcare, education, road construction, electrification, and water sanitation. Ganiyu Hamzat, the Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, praised these efforts, noting that they align with the broader goals of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration to provide responsive governance.
The newly enacted legislation, titled the Abeokuta North Local Government Bye-Law on Livestock Grazing and Herders Registration, requires the formal registration of all herders and livestock owners. To ensure a smooth transition, the council engaged various stakeholders, including traditional leaders, security officials, and farming communities, to explain the law and discuss broader public regulations regarding land use and environmental safety.
Oyegbola-Sodipo emphasized that progress goes beyond mere construction, stressing that building robust institutions and fostering community collaboration are equally vital. He explained that the grazing regulations were established to foster peace between farmers and herders while protecting local agricultural interests. Furthermore, the chairman reaffirmed his commitment to institutional reform, public health, and security, while acknowledging the support received from both President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dapo Abiodun.
