The African Democratic Congress (ADC) asserts that President Bola Tinubu’s instruction to unfreeze the Osun State Government’s bank accounts was prompted by intense public dissatisfaction rather than a voluntary decision. In a statement issued Thursday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, labeled the President’s public remarks as strange and unusual.
While the ADC supports the reversal of the directive, it challenged the President’s assertion that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was operating under a judicial mandate. Abdullahi suggested that the President was either provided with incorrect information or was intentionally distorting the facts. He argued that the President’s claim of intervening to stop the EFCC highlights a lack of true independence for the agency, suggesting that the executive branch influences its operations.
The ADC representative questioned the existence of the court order mentioned by Tinubu, noting that the EFCC had previously defended its actions solely through its own statutory powers. Abdullahi remarked that the commission’s failure to mention a court order during public discourse, including media appearances, makes the President’s reference to one highly suspicious. He concluded that whether the President was misled or misrepresented the situation, the uncertainty remains a significant concern.
