The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has identified two additional counterfeit government bodies during its probe into Adeniyi Matthew Adeyemi, who claimed to lead the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu shared these findings with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Investigations confirmed that Adeyemi holds no legitimate appointment, and the PFIPC was never established through any legal or executive mandate. Aliyu stated that the individual falsified his appointment documents. Furthermore, the group occupied offices formerly used by the Presidential Economic Advisory Council to facilitate unauthorized activities.
Beyond the PFIPC, authorities uncovered two other bogus entities: the FCT Investment Promotion Agency and the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency. These groups utilized fabricated legislative documents to establish bank accounts for illicit purposes. While no government funds were disbursed to these fake agencies and no security breaches occurred at the Central Bank or State House, the probe identified complicit officials within several key government offices, including the Budget Office and the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The commission has proposed prosecuting Adeyemi alongside administrative penalties for public servants who facilitated these operations. As the investigation remains ongoing, President Tinubu has underscored his administration’s dedication to maintaining transparency and integrity in governance.
