Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu recently announced that a committee tasked with designing Nigeria’s proposed state police system utilized international case studies to guide its recommendations. By examining the policing structures in the United States, India, and Pakistan, the group aimed to craft a robust framework for the nation.
During a workshop held at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre in Abuja, Disu encouraged officers to participate thoughtfully in the ongoing national debate. He emphasized that police personnel should provide objective analysis and help educate the public as the reform process moves forward.
Disu explained that the police committee finalized its framework in just 17 days, creating a foundational document that is now being reviewed by state governors. Former Inspectors-General of Police have also provided input and revisions to strengthen the proposal. The IGP stressed that the initiative is designed to address security concerns while inviting meaningful contributions from all stakeholders to ensure effective internal governance.
