Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has advised musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, to stop pressuring him regarding the upcoming Osun State gubernatorial election. Instead, Uzodimma suggested that the singer focus on helping his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, transition out of office after the August 15, 2026, vote.
The statement followed claims by Davido that an unnamed politician from Imo State intended to manipulate the electoral process in Osun. As a key figure in his uncle’s youth mobilization campaign, the singer had publicly warned against external interference. Representing Uzodimma, his aide Ambrose Nwaogwugwu dismissed these concerns, asserting that the Osun electorate favors the All Progressives Congress.
Uzodimma remarked that rather than seeking to influence him, Davido might consider hiring his uncle as a dancer for his band, implying that Governor Adeleke is unlikely to retain his position following the 2026 election. The Imo governor, who serves as the APC National Campaign Council Chairman, emphasized that the decision remains entirely with the voters of Osun.
