A retired official from the Department of State Services, Nwaogu Ihechimere Ezeakolam, was ordered to be held at the Kuje Correctional Centre by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday. The former officer faces charges related to his alleged involvement with and support of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which is officially classified as a terrorist organization in Nigeria.
Prosecutors presented a four-count charge against Ezeakolam, citing violations of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act of 2022 and the Cybercrimes (Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015. The accusations include joining the group, disseminating promotional material online, and attempting to recruit others through social media posts between 2025 and 2026.
Before Justice Muhammed Umar, the defendant entered a plea of not guilty to all allegations. Following the plea, the court granted the prosecution’s request to remand the accused in custody while awaiting trial. The case has been set for October 29 to begin legal proceedings.
