The Osun State Government has formally dismissed claims by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding the alleged misappropriation of N11 billion. State authorities described the accusation as a baseless attempt to validate the illegal freezing of government bank accounts.
Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo, stated on Wednesday that the commission’s actions were driven by political motives rather than financial wrongdoing. The government asserted that the move to freeze its funds was a deliberate strategy by the EFCC, acting on behalf of Gboyega Oyetola, to obstruct the disbursement of palliatives promised to state workers.
Addressing the allegations, the government maintained that all promised palliatives have already been successfully distributed to help staff manage current economic hardships. Officials argued that the commission is conducting a biased investigation for the Osun APC, noting that since March 2026, the agency has harassed state officials without producing any evidence of criminal activity.
The state highlighted its record of fiscal transparency and audit integrity, insisting that its limited funds are exclusively utilized for infrastructure and public service delivery. Government representatives concluded by stating that the EFCC’s narrative is a fabricated justification for an unlawful procedure, emphasizing that legitimate legal channels exist for handling corruption investigations rather than resorting to the politically motivated freezing of public assets.
