Uganda is mourning the passing of David Owori, the captain of SC Villa, who died after a suspected robbery near his residence in Kampala. On Tuesday evening, the 27-year-old athlete was ambushed in the Makindye neighborhood. According to witness accounts, attackers struck him with paving stones, took his personal items, and escaped.
Owori received initial medical attention at a local clinic before being moved to a private hospital in the capital, where he passed away from his injuries. SC Villa issued a statement mourning him not just as a footballer, but as a cherished leader and friend. Club spokesperson Asan Kasingye confirmed the details of the ambush, noting that the injuries sustained were fatal despite efforts to save him.
Authorities are actively pursuing the perpetrators. Kampala police spokesperson Rachael Kawala stated that officers have secured the site and are meticulously gathering evidence. Known to fans as “Colgate,” Owori was a standout talent who played for both SC Villa and the national team, the Cranes. The Federation of Uganda Football Associations lauded him as an inspiration and a vital role model for the sport.
