The Accord party has strongly condemned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for freezing Osun State government accounts just days before the 2026 governorship election. Chief Maxwell Mgbudem, the party’s national leader, labeled the move as an act of reckless injustice and a deliberate attempt to cripple state operations for the benefit of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Accord alleges that the EFCC acted without a court order, fearing that a judicial body would reject the request. The party claims this move is part of a broader strategy involving federal security agencies to destabilize the state and undermine the will of the electorate. According to the party, residents have already rejected the APC due to the economic hardship experienced under its governance.
The party has called upon President Bola Tinubu to intervene by ensuring that security agencies, particularly the police, remain neutral and professional throughout the electoral process. Accord reported widespread intimidation and illegal detention of its members, describing the current political atmosphere in Osun as equivalent to a war zone. They have demanded the immediate release of all detained supporters and urged the president to allow the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct the poll without interference. Accord maintains that the voters’ right to choose their leadership is sacred and vowed to challenge these actions through legal channels.
