The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has characterized the withholding of statutory funds from local councils in Osun State as an act of political terrorism. The party claims the Federal Government is leveraging these financial resources as a strategic tool to influence the upcoming gubernatorial election.
Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, emphasized that the ongoing conflict has transcended political bickering. He noted that the primary victims are local residents, as the frozen capital has prevented the payment of public servant wages and the delivery of critical healthcare and educational services.
Furthermore, the ADC accused federal authorities of allowing unelected loyalists of the All Progressives Congress to remain in control of local government offices. The party also cited reports of the detention of opposition members, labeling these maneuvers as deliberate attempts to destabilize the region.
The opposition party asserted that political rivals should not be treated as combatants and stressed that federal power does not grant ownership over public institutions. By treating essential social welfare as a political bargaining chip, the government is jeopardizing the well-being of the populace. The ADC warned that the administration led by President Bola Tinubu appears willing to jeopardize the stability of Osun State to secure electoral advantages, a strategy it claims is incompatible with democratic principles.
