The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The party seeks an investigation into claims that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration is using public money to influence voters ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial race.
Remi Omowaye, who chairs the APC campaign council’s media committee, stated on Wednesday that the government is soliciting bank account details from residents to distribute N20,000 payments. Omowaye labeled this initiative a systematic vote-buying strategy designed to secure political support. He further criticized the timing of these disbursements, noting that the state has outstanding pension contributions and worker deductions, which he considers a criminal misappropriation of public resources.
In response, Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson for Governor Adeleke, dismissed the accusations. He clarified that the payments are legitimate palliative measures intended to assist civil servants. Rasheed maintained that the government has been providing consistent financial support to state workers to improve their welfare, noting that Osun was among the first states to implement the new minimum wage. He accused the opposition of mischaracterizing a policy focused on boosting worker morale and service delivery.
