A tragic collision on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway claimed three lives and left three individuals injured on Wednesday morning. Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), confirmed that the accident occurred around 5:00 a.m. near Babcock Junction in Ikenne, Ogun State.
The incident involved a white Mercedes-Benz truck and a yellow crane. Investigators believe the crash was caused by the crane driver, who was speeding while traveling against the flow of traffic. This resulted in a head-on impact between the two vehicles.
Emergency responders from TRACE, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Police, and the Papa Oscar rescue team arrived quickly at the site. The injured were transported to Babcock University Teaching Hospital for medical care, while the deceased were taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital morgue in Sagamu. Traffic was temporarily redirected to clear the scene. Officials have urged drivers to obey traffic laws and avoid the dangerous practice of driving against oncoming vehicles.
