Michael Aondoakaa, the PDP governorship candidate for Benue State, has denounced the recent assault on the Abaashwa community in Guma Local Government Area that left four individuals dead. In a Tuesday statement released by his aide James Ian, the former Minister of Justice labeled the violence as a tragic sign of the region’s crumbling safety.
Aondoakaa expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a swift recovery for the injured. He emphasized that true security is defined by proactive prevention rather than reactive sympathy. He warned that frequent strikes on rural communities are driving farmers off their land, which jeopardizes the agricultural output of the state.
The candidate urged the Benue government to prioritize the safety of its citizens, asserting that protection is a constitutional obligation. He argued that officials must focus their policies and resources on ending the cycle of displacement. Furthermore, he raised alarms about victims struggling to access healthcare due to an ongoing doctors’ strike, calling for emergency protocols to ensure that those wounded in attacks receive urgent life-saving care.
