Ipswich Town has finalized the signing of defensive midfielder Florentino Luis from Burnley for an undisclosed amount. The 26-year-old Portuguese international has committed to a five-year deal with the club. Although Hull City also expressed interest, Ipswich secured his signature.
Florentino expressed excitement about joining the team, noting his intent to provide balance between defensive and attacking play. Manager Gary O’Neil praised the addition, highlighting the player’s previous Premier League and Champions League experience as a major boost for the midfield.
The move comes shortly after Florentino’s transfer from Benfica to Burnley was made permanent in June for approximately £20.8 million. During his time at Burnley, he appeared in 33 total matches under former boss Scott Parker. His professional background includes winning the Portuguese Primeira Liga twice with Benfica and representing Portugal at various youth levels.
