Lakurawa Militants Kill Police Officer and Three Civilians in Sokoto Attack

A violent raid by Lakurawa militants in Sokoto State has left a police officer and three civilians dead, prompting concerns over regional security.

Suspected Lakurawa militants launched a deadly raid on the Girkau community in the Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, resulting in the deaths of a police officer and three civilians. Security analyst Bakatsine reported the violence on social media, noting that several other individuals sustained injuries during the assault.

Among the victims was police officer Hussaini Manyu. The assailants also targeted an elderly man named Bala Wakili and a young herder who reportedly refused to surrender his livestock. Additionally, a local farmer was shot and killed while tending to his crops.

During their escape, the gunmen set fire to a police Hilux truck and a vehicle owned by the Community Guard. The attackers also stole a number of cattle from the area. In a separate incident during the raid, a woman was assaulted after thwarting an attempted sexual attack. The incident has raised urgent questions regarding the security of vulnerable populations in the region.
