Ruben Amorim aims to restore AC Milan glory by embracing Franco Baresi’s legacy

Ruben Amorim has pledged to carry on the legacy of the late Franco Baresi as he takes charge of AC Milan’s turnaround efforts, with Luka Modric set to feature in the upcoming derby against Inter.

Newly appointed AC Milan manager Ruben Amorim is committed to upholding the values of club icon Franco Baresi, who passed away last week, as he works to turn around the team’s struggling performance. Following his departure from Manchester United in January, the Portuguese tactician is now focused on his upcoming clash against Inter in Perth, Western Australia.

Amorim, 41, began his tenure with a 2-2 exhibition draw against Celtic in Glasgow last month. His primary goal is securing a top-four Serie A finish after the club narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification last season. He noted that the squad feels unified and emphasized the necessity of maintaining that collective spirit throughout the demanding season.

The squad received a significant lift with Luka Modric signing a one-year contract extension. Amorim confirmed the veteran midfielder will feature in the derby against Inter. Speaking on the passing of Baresi, a central figure in the club’s successful 1980s and 90s era, Amorim stated that while he cannot guarantee specific outcomes, he is dedicated to honoring the club’s history. The upcoming matches in Perth serve as part of the Calcio Italiano festival, a series of friendlies designed to increase the visibility of Italian football in the region.
