Neymar Jr. has addressed recent remarks made by his father, who hinted that the forward might not be finished with the Brazilian national team despite the player announcing his retirement last month.
At 34, Neymar returned to the international stage for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a three-year hiatus. Brazil’s tournament ended in the Round of 16 with a 2-1 loss against Norway. During the competition, Neymar appeared as a substitute in a 3-0 victory over Scotland and played the second half of the match against Norway, where he converted a late penalty.
Following that elimination, Neymar declared his retirement from international football. However, his father recently told journalist Fabrizio Romano that he could not guarantee the decision was final, suggesting a comeback remains a possibility. Neymar has effectively countered that sentiment by standing by his decision to exit the national setup.
The former Barcelona and PSG star retires as Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 80 goals. His final goal against Norway also secured his place in history as the second Brazilian player, alongside Pelé, to score in four separate World Cups.
