Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for the Accord Party Governorship Campaign Council in Osun State, has accused Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu of mandating the ongoing incarceration of party member Popoola Alaba. This claim emerged despite assertions that police investigators failed to uncover any evidence connecting Alaba to a crime.
Speaking on ARISE News, Olajengbesi addressed the arrest, which occurred during a period of high political tension regarding the upcoming Osun governorship election. He dismissed official claims that Alaba was caught in possession of firearms, stating that the suspect was merely conducting outreach with his supporters at the time of his apprehension.
Olajengbesi contended that if the police had actually recovered weapons, they would have displayed them publicly to validate the arrest. He further claimed that investigators privately admitted to the campaign council that no formal petitions existed against Alaba and no illicit items were seized. According to Olajengbesi, these officers cited direct orders from the Inspector-General to hold the suspect indefinitely. He has now urged the police and the media to clarify the situation by presenting any existing proof to the public.
