Bethel Onyedikachi Ukachukwu has been sentenced to two years in prison by the Ekiti State High Court in Ado-Ekiti. The ruling, delivered by Justice Lekan Ogunmoye on July 28, 2026, stems from a case involving a fraudulent car auction scheme.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecuted Ukachukwu on three charges. He admitted to deceiving Kayode Aina Samuel by collecting N500,000 under the false promise of securing a vehicle from the Nigeria Customs Service. Prosecutors highlighted that Ukachukwu, who misrepresented himself as an Army Lieutenant, never provided the promised vehicle nor returned the funds.
During the proceedings, the defendant pleaded guilty to the counts of obtaining money by false pretenses and dishonest conversion of property. While the defense attorney, T.A. Salami, requested leniency based on the defendant’s remorse and the eventual refund of the money, Justice Ogunmoye imposed a two-year jail term. The court also provided an option for a N150,000 fine. Ukachukwu is currently held at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre.
