Welsh Fire secured their fourth victory in five games during the current Hundred season, defeating Southern Brave by six wickets at Sophia Gardens. Matt Short led the chase with an impressive unbeaten 60 from 41 deliveries.
Chasing a target of 116, the Fire lost Phil Salt early, but a solid partnership of 56 runs between Short and Joe Root stabilized the innings. Despite Chris Jordan removing Root and Rachin Ravindra in quick succession, and Jordan Cox falling shortly after, Short maintained his composure. He reached his fifty with a six off Jofra Archer and partnered with Tom Kohler-Cadmore to secure the win with five balls left.
Earlier, the Southern Brave struggled significantly after being put in to bat. Both openers, Jamie Smith and Ben McKinney, were dismissed for ducks. Marcus Stoinis provided the only real resistance, scoring 55 off 39 balls before falling to Sam Cook, who finished with notable figures of 3-14. The visitors finished their innings at 115-8.
This result puts the Fire level on 16 points with the Trent Rockets at the top of the table. The Brave remain in fourth place with two wins from six matches.
