Wasilat, a TikTok content creator in Ibadan, Oyo State, has refuted claims that she filmed the sacred Oloolu masquerade or that she had passed away. During an interview on Lagelu FM, she stated she neither recorded the traditional figure nor suffered fatal consequences. She explained that while she did record a video near Oremeji featuring people and an Amotekun vehicle, the Oloolu masquerade was not present on that route.
Despite her denial, online rumors suggested she faced danger after sharing the footage. Chief Adeola Oloko, spokesperson for the Olubadan of Ibadanland, clarified that while she did not film the Oloolu itself, she had mistakenly recorded Alawo Oloolu, an associated figure. According to Oloko, the woman later experienced health issues, leading her family to perform traditional rites at the Oloolu compound to appease the custodians.
Public footage showed the creator undergoing cleansing rituals, including having her head shaved and wearing red clothing. These ceremonies are common during the annual Oloolu Festival, which serves as a time for ancestral honor and communal prayer. Oloko noted that the incident serves as a reminder to respect traditional prohibitions, as women are forbidden from viewing the Oloolu.
