A woman taken from Ariko village in the Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State has escaped her captors after six months in detention. She managed to flee the kidnappers’ camp with her two surviving daughters following a 180-day ordeal. The woman was pregnant when she and her children, then aged four, six, and 12, were originally seized.
According to security analyst Reuben Buhari, the family escaped on Saturday and navigated through the wilderness while suffering from severe exhaustion. During her time in captivity, the mother gave birth, but the baby died shortly after. The group endured a grueling journey on foot, during which the youngest daughter, four-year-old Christy, passed away.
The mother and her remaining daughters eventually reached a local community on Sunday. Residents provided immediate aid and medical care before coordinating their transport to Kaduna for advanced treatment. While this family has regained their freedom, Buhari confirmed that 33 others from Ariko and 11 individuals from Awon village remain in captivity. He has urged authorities to intensify search efforts for the remaining hostages.
