Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, asserting that citizens cannot sustain themselves on GDP figures or debt-to-GDP ratios. Represented by his aide Phrank Shaibu, the former presidential candidate argued that the current administration relies on propaganda rather than tangible results. He highlighted that 767 factories have shut down while hundreds more remain in distress, contradicting the government’s narrative of economic success.
Atiku challenged the Presidency to explain why poverty levels are rising despite their claims of a growing economy. He emphasized that government serves the people, not spreadsheets, noting that while the administration focuses on complex financial data, families are struggling to afford basic necessities. Referencing data from the IMF, he pointed out that 63 percent of Nigerians live below the poverty line, with millions facing food insecurity. He concluded that the administration has failed to improve the daily realities of market traders, graduates, and small business owners.
