The Northern Nigeria Christian Youth Association (NNCYA) has called on Christian leaders to refrain from making public statements that might exacerbate political friction following private audiences with President Bola Tinubu. In a statement issued Monday by National Secretary Bason Sunday and Publicity Secretary Pastor Ruth Wada, the organization emphasized that meetings with the President should be utilized to foster national unity and constructive engagement rather than inciting controversy.
This advisory follows the recent meeting between the President and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria. While acknowledging the stature of leaders like Cardinal John Onaiyekan, the NNCYA stated that post-meeting commentary should prioritize national stability. The association characterized access to the presidency as a responsibility intended for counsel and intercession. They argued that selective media reports regarding these private discussions risk inflaming the national mood.
Addressing the broader political climate, the group cautioned against labeling President Tinubu as indifferent to Nigeria’s security and economic hardships. They noted that the President, as Commander-in-Chief, operates with intelligence data unavailable to the general public. The NNCYA urged citizens to avoid hasty judgments and instead support efforts directed at national recovery. Finally, the association encouraged Christian youth to remain steadfast and reject any attempts to utilize the church for partisan division, stressing the importance of praying for leadership and working toward collective development.
